The company Poupée Millet was founded by two artists in 1981; Serge Chichportich, born in Paris, France, and Pablo Pares from Buenos Aires, Argentina. In a small studio outside of Paris they came up with the original design for the Poupées, or "dolls" in French, which were then but are no longer filled with millet grain, hence the name Poupée Millet. Each Poupée Millet is a unique work of art, with no two alike. They are hand crafted and hand painted, then individually dressed in a variety of exotic, vibrantly colored fabrics, and finally, signed by the artist Serge as proof of authenticity. The first Poupée Millet were commercially available in 1982 and they have continued to steadily grow in popularity since then.

After five years of business, the two artists decided to go their separate ways. Pablo stayed in Paris and continued to make poupées for a year before selling his studio. Serge traveled to America and opened a studio in San Francisco, California. His Poupée Millet are now sold in galleries and gift stores throughout the U.S and all around the world.

In 1995 a beautiful collection of Poupée Millet was commissioned by Walt Disney for the openings of galleries in San Francisco, New York, and Las Vegas. Of the two original artists who began the company in Paris, Serge is the only one who has continued to make Poupée Millet. Serge has maintained his commitment to making unique Poupée Millet according to the traditional style, technique, and quality that his customers have come to know and trust.
